Norbert H. Zaleski, 81, Father, Grandfather

Services will be held Friday and Saturday.

Norbert H. Zaleski, of Brecksville, died Tuesday at the age of 81. Nosek-McCreery Funeral Home is overseeing the services and provided the following information. Zaleski was the husband of Vidmanta (nee Rabaviciene) and the late Rosalie (nee Gondek); the father of Scott (Laura), Todd (deceased) and the stepfather of Grazina and Ruta; the grandfather of Zachary, Olivia and Dillon and the brother of Alice McIntosh. Visiting hours will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday at Nosek-McCreery Funeral Home. There will be a prayer service at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Basil the Great Church at 10 a.m. To leave condolences for the family, visit Nosek-McCreery Funeral Home’s website.

Scott Wayne, 18, Son, Brother

Visiting hours are being held Wednesday, and the funeral will be held Thursday.

Scott L. Wayne of Brecksville died suddenly on Sunday at the age of 18. Ferfolia Funeral Home is overseeing the services and provided the following information. Wayne was the son of Ronald and Ann Marie (nee Hanford); the brother of Ryan (Natalie), Adam, and Brad; the uncle and godfather of Caleb; the grandson of Arthur L. and Janice Hanford and the late John F. and Emily R. Wayne; and the nephew and cousin of many. Visiting hours will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at the Ferfolia Funeral Home in Sagamore Hills. A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Basil the Great Church on Thursday. Harold Giegel, 83, and Patricia Giegel, 82, Parents, Grandparents

Services will be held Friday.

Services for Harold R. Giegel, 83, and Patricia A. Giegel, 82, of Brecksville will be held Friday. Nosek-McCreery Funeral Home is overseeing the services and provided the following information. The Giegels were married for 60 years. They were the parents of Susan (deceased), David, Kathleen Riehle (deceased) (Barry, surviving), Joe (Lisa) and John and the grandparents of Tyler and Kathryn.  The family will receive friends from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Nosek-McCreery Funeral Home, and a mass of Christian burial will begin at 11 a.m. at St. Basil the Great Church. Natalie Szczurek Prayer Service Set for Monday Night

The service is being held for the high school student who recently passed away.

St. Basil the Great is hosting a prayer service tonight for a local high school student who recently died. Natalie Szczurek was an 18-year-old from Brecksville, said Powell Caesar, spokesman for the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s office. A representative from the church confirmed that Szczurek was a senior at Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School. The prayer service will begin at 7 p.m. All are welcome to attend.

Elaine Barbara Niebaum, 70, Mother, Volunteer, Human Services Employee

Services are being held Saturday.

Elaine Barbara Niebaum (nee Schroeder) (Trapp), a dedicated Brecksville volunteer and former Human Services employee, died earlier this week at the age of 70. Niebaum didn’t have to work after she retired from Allstate Insurance, but when the opportunity to work part-time with the Human Services department arose, she took it gladly, said her husband, Bob Niebaum. She enjoyed working with the employees, the hundreds of volunteers and the citizens the department served. During her 11 years with the department, Niebaum helped run the Brecksville Pantry and the Salvation Army unit. She was also involved in a variety of community organizations, most recently the Brecksville Bicentennial Committee. Niebaum was the co-chair of the committee for …

Interfaith Project Unites Religions and Aids Homeless

Four religious groups including members of St. Basil the Great, The Unity Center, United Methodist Church, and Kol Halev met Sunday afternoon.

Fifty people of different faiths got together at St. Basil the Great Church to help the homeless in an interfaith project that also allowed them to get to know one another better.  As part of InterAct Cleveland’s Homeless Stand Down, four groups gathered Sunday – St. Basil the Great, Brecksville United Methodist Church; Kol Halev and The Unity Center – to make survival kits for homeless men and gain insight on other religions.  “Since I was little, I’ve always been drawn to what is different than what I already know,” said Sister Judith Wood. Empathy is her learning tool.
