Brecksville Police Blotter: Copper Piping Taken From Empty Home

The following information was supplied by the Brecksville Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The following incidents were reported by the from Feb. 16 to Feb. 24. The information was compiled from police reports.

Copper theft from empty house
Police were called to a home in the 8600 block of Riverview Road at 6:04 p.m. on Feb. 24. The owner was out of state, and the person who was house sitting noticed that someone had entered the house. Police found that a basement window in the back of the house had been forced open, and about 60 to 70 feet of ½-inch copper piping had been removed from the basement. A garage door was unlocked. No other items were taken, and there are no suspects at this time.

Contributing to the delinquency of a minor
Police pulled over a speeding car on Interstate 77 at 1:19 a.m. on Feb. 16. The driver, a 20-year-old Akron man, told police he was going to his mother’s house in Avon. There was a minor in the car, who police questioned. The girl, who was from Elyria, said she was 12. The two told police that they were friends who had met at the skating rink.

The 20-year-old told police that the minor’s parents knew she was out, but when the officers contacted the minor’s great-grandmother, who she lives with, they found out that was not the case. The minor was going to be referred to a juvenile officer. The 20-year-old was cited for speeding and charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
