Brecksville Wraps Up Salt Deal for Winter

But not in city government.

The city of Brecksville recently wrapped up an agreement with Cargill to pay $45.38 per ton of sodium chloride for this winter.

“We’re already thinking about leaf collection,” said Ron Wiedig, the city’s service director.

The price for a ton of salt dropped slightly this year, from nearly $48 per ton last year.

The dip in price is an exception to the rule. The price has been steadily climbing, starting at $22.25 in 2000.

“Last year, there was such a huge stockpile,” stemming from the exceptionally mild-winter, added Weidig.
